touching base

Well hello.

It has been precisely three months and a day since my last post. Although i have been having quite an eventful summer, I must say that I miss the leisurely blogging. It's ironic to think that I will have more time blogging once the school year begins.

I will get back to my internet life (tweeting and fbook stalking have been neglected as well), once i overcome several hurdles: 1) find out what my wireless password is so that i may use the internet at home 2) get a new (working) digital camera so that i can post up pics and finally 3)find new material.

no sanctuary

my poor blog has been neglected for quite some time now..

I think everyone deserves to know that I've had the worst 24 hours of my life starting on Friday. To summarize, i found bugs IN MY ROOM and spent Friday night literally sanitizing everything I own. I'm not kidding, i removed every piece of furniture I own from my room and javexed everything. I even took all my clothes plus all my bedding and passed it through the washer and dryer. My mother says that I'm over-reacting but i can't help imagining some sort of massive colonization on insects under the floor boards or in between the walls...

I went to bed with one pillow, and one blanket, because i was afraid if i had more on my bed it would fall off and touch the floor.

I also had nightmares about infestation.

After this wonderful night, i am still suffering from back pain from moving my entire life out of my room.
oh, let's not forget, I think I hit my cracking point, but the next day at work i cried. That's right, Stacy cried at work. It was an incredible embarrassment, and the people i work with who both don't know me/ don't like me must think im a big idiot.

The rest of my night was a success, with Aleasha's potluck. I will follow up with pictures, but I can't promise anything good, since Aleasha thought it was a good idea to waste my pictures on useless things.

After over indulging on wine, cheese and banana bread...im feeling quite groggy today. Whateves Saturday night fun is always worth the sunday misery.

ps i decided to change the layout of my blog, i don't know if im completely satisfied so expect more changes...

I'm backkkk

I have not had any leisure time in the past 3 weeks.
Finished my essays, completed all my finals: i'm done, it's summer baby.

Let's be honest, i may have finished school, however the stress of my results will stay with me until i get my grades.

I am currently waitng for my nails to dry and watching the Drs (I LOVE NOT HAVING SCHOOL)

Because i have been so preoccupied school, i have completely lost all organization in every other part of my life.  It turns out that im supposed to be working two places at the same times this week, as well as attend a surprise party sometime while im working.

I definitely need to start making some phone calls.

For those of you who don't know, summer for me usually means working 7 days a week, but this year, I don't want it to get out of hand.  I mean, i want to be able to have time to tan (in the real sun).

I don't think that my mother has been to happy with me this week, especially since i missed family dinners, and church on easter.  But today i actually sat down for lunch with her, and she insisted that we have an easter egg battle.  Every year my mom gets really competitive and after she started rubbing it in my face that i was losing i decided it was time to take out the camera and capture her excitement.

PS. love how she suggests this would be good for my blog

PUBLIC WARNING

Its a beautiful spring day (finally) but I feel like its my general duty to warn people on the follow:

a. it's not cool to be wearing a skirt/dress without nylons. Please invest in some hosiery
b. don't go out with capris and uggs. wtf i thought that was given
c. im going to lose it if i see one more person running around town with just a flex fleece. def too soon.

I just published this and closed my computer, and saw the guy in front of me wearing faded black socks with old birkenstocks.
just saying.

many things to be mentioned, however i will hold back for using the list-format.

I hope everyone had fun on st patrick's day parade, because my idea of a good time was getting drunk at 3 oclock on a sunday and attempting to recover at the mcgill library.

I had my astrobiology midterm today, needless to say it went terrible.  I cant blame it on the drunk studying, i truly think that this subject is just too far beyond my reach.  Seriously: I DONT CARE HOW MANY MOONS JUPITER HAS. sorry, i just have a lot of frustration regarding this course.

Back to yesterday's disaster:
I traded numbers with a guy, and after chatting for a bit I came to the realization that he knows my dad, from work.  The universe really does enjoy playing sick jokes on me.

Walking the library today, Adam pointed out the 'tree of donations" that is set in the front.  He told me that everyone whose name was written on a gold leaf has donated 500, 000- 1,000,000$ to the school.  There are a lot of goddamn gold leafs on the tree, let me tell you.  Which led me to the question: who are these philanthropic millionaires in montreal? and more importantly who are their sons??

Ignore the last point,
Am i high maintenance?
i was very offended when several people this week told me that i was "high maintenance"
I just don't see it.

forget fml, read this instead

today was scattered with several minor disappointments.

  1. I woke up at noon and had to physically run for the bus, major embarrassment in itself
  2. I accidentally/long story got peroxide in my eye and had to undergo severe pain while praying i would not have to call the chemical emergency hotline; which resulted in me having to go out in public with my GLASSES.
  3. After being seated comfortably on the bus for several minutes, I realized that i had forgotten my phone at home and had to endure a 45 minute walk back.
  4. The mcgill food services has been officially blacklisted in my books, because when dinnertime came around, the damn tim hortons was closed: i had to walk all the way to the one on sherbrooke which leads me to...
  5. The Tim Hortons gods are definitely not on my side and once again i did not win a free coffee.  I really don't think its normally that someone like me who ingests 2 liters of coffee a day and never effing win anything.
  6. I witnessed a terrifying car crash.  Which resulted in an ambulance carrying people away
  7. Im still studying for a class that i will inevitably do poorly in.

circus

I decided to post some sweet vids for those of you who unfortunately missed britney's concert.

it's midweek

I have been an internet junkie this week and thanks to google, i have discovered the following:
  1.  I am in fact allergic to red wine, and apparently it happens to a lot of people.  It can be due to either the tannins or sulphites.  Regardless, i self-diagnosed myself, and will refrain from drinking red wine.
  2. a baker's dozen= 13.  I was always uncertain whether it was 12, or 13 so i finally did the research.
  3. the singer from postal service is the same singer from death cab (apparently everyone knew this except for me)
  4. the top 20 celebrity blogs and their links, some of the best ones were quite surprising.
  5. Lady Gaga (i actually hate her, but found myself reading about her) was one of 20 of the youngest people to get accepted to a prestigious music school in NYC
This is what happens when you have no homework for one week.  If you wasted your time reading this at least you can now say that you know 5 random facts.

I walk for water

This is my third year celebrating Earth Month with Aveda, and as usual we are all participating in the "Walk for Water."

Its actually a really good cause; all the money raised goes towards creating access to fresh clean water for those in need.  Basically we all walk for 6km, which is the average distance that someone in a developing country has to walk for fresh water EVERY DAY.

Here are some facts:
Every 15 seconds a child dies from water-related illnesses resulting in 6000 deaths per day.
Poor water quality cause 10 times more deaths last year than all the wars waged on the planet.
People in developing countries use approximately 10 liters of water a day, while the average person in the US uses 350.

If you have the time i recommend that you check the site, and im also hoping that you'll be generous enough to support me.  You can donate at: www.iwalkforwater.ca
I believe they have a minimum donation of 5$, but anything you can give would be very much appreciated!

Here's a sweet pic from last year

zaffy's comment of the day

Ever since my sister moved out, she's always coming back home to learn how to cook.  This sounds like something nice, but its very annoying for me, because i'm the one who has to eat the experimental dinner.
Today was nice though, we had Sergio and Aymeric over and we celebrated both their birthdays with what my mom called a "recession cake" aka the cheap frozen mccain cakes.
You see my mom can be a very humorous person, but what she said today is probably one of her best.  She couldn't light the candles on the cake so i started complaining and took the lighter from her to do it myself.  So there in front of everyone she said, (seriously this was too good to make up) "well sorry i don't know how to use a lighter, I'm not the one using it to smoke weed"
I think its safe to say that everyone at the table was surprised that she said that.
and now my mom thinks I'm a pot-head. beautiful.

"spring break"

I have come to the realization that I can only blog when I'm trying to procrastinate with my homework.
Spring break came and went (it wasn't spring and I didn't have a break) and now im stuck again at school withmountains of homework.  If I see one more tan and relaxed person im going to lose it.
Aside from working and attempting to study, my last three days of spring break were pretty entertaining.  I probably got a grand total of 7 hours of sleep.
summary:
friday: rockband party (it appears that my guitar skills increase with increasing beer consumption)
saturday: nuit blanche (walking outside in the cold, and getting cornered in a room full of cake by some cracked out artist, also enjoying the arts and crafts corner and Irish heritage)
sunday: masquerade party (fun party, bad decision. I was ruined monday morning)
I should also mention that the break included my worst fall of 2009, where I plummeted down a flight of stairs and landed in a pile of snow (im still recovering)

...as you can clearly see, I have nothing interesting to blog about, but i didnt want to get into a lack-of-blogging slump.

call me ;)

YAY I finally got my new blackberry!
only downside: my old sim card had to be "destroyed" so i have to transfer all my phone numbers manually into the new phone.
After i finally seemed to master the macbook, i am now presented with a new piece of technology that I cannot understand.  I'll wait for Christina D to get back, so that i can get a little tutorial...

which reminds me, if you have bbm send me your pins...I feel really popular with the two contacts that i currently have.

one of these days, i'm just going to lose it

I've realized that i have all these weird things that make me very upset, and i have decided to formulate a list:

  1.  I will get upset if anyone tells me what time it is before i go to bed. (because then i will know how many hours i did not sleep).
  2. So help me if someone touches my stuff... or rearranges my stuff.  I place everything in a specific order (we can all recall the pen incident of sec 5), and i can tell when something is out of place.
  3. I HATE it when people close my windows on my computer, but even worse is when people don't sign out of whatever it is they were doing. I have a specific order of my tabs, and i hate having to reopen everything.
  4. I always have to leave at least one piece of food on my plate, even if i'm really hungry I always leave something.
  5. I need at least one window open in a car, because i cant stand the feeling of knowing that other people are breathing in a confined area, and i get really anxious if the car radio is too loud.
  6. I will have an anxiety attack if someone is breathing too close to me.
  7. I don't like people drinking from my glass.
  8. When i get home, the first thing i do is wash my hands, and i usually walk around my house with my jacket still on for a good ten minutes.
  9. If i'm in a room, i need the door to be closed.
I'm sure there are plenty more, but that's all i could think of for the moment.

latest obsession: red velvet cupcakes

The greatest thing in my life right now are these damn cupcakes.
Go to starbucks and try them.  The first time I did, i had two in one day.

They put them in these damn boxes that take them FOREVER to assemble, and you look like a loser walking around with a massive cake box.

It is also crucial to maintain an appropriate cupcake-to-frosting ratio.

vday summary

my vday went and past without any major event.  I actually really enjoyed walking into work today to find out that im not the only one dying alone.
I cant say I did nothing on vday though.  I did go out to have a lovely dinner during my study break with jamie, laura and mike.  Finding a place to eat was an event in itself.  We had three unbeatable events working against us: saturday night, valentine's day and celine dion concert.
After finding parking we went some random restaurant dtown and had some wine and some pasta.
The highlight of my night, was that the latino waiter has hitting on me (so I didn't feel completely unwanted on vday).
But alas, I went home alone. At a decent hour.

on a side note, i think that we talk about our lives way to loudly at work because i had a lot of customers who felt the need to tell me they didn't do anything last night either.

my organization skills: A+

I went into astrobiology today, thinking I would start fresh and start taking notes.  I decided to shrug off my bad feelings of the midterm and concentrate on improving for the future.....
That was when I realized that my paper was due. Today.
I had to skip my class and watch an effing symposium on high speed while frantically typing at the same time.

Adam pointed out to me that perhaps school isn't for me.
Apparently I have the appearance of a good student, but in practice I have miserable results.

I just think I should buy a goddamn agenda to write down my homework.

limo service

I have had such an eventful morning, and i haven't even finished my first coffee yet. I had about five hours of sleep, but managed to wake up on time and catch my bus. After staying on the bus for a good five minutes, i realized that i forgot my phone at home. I stayed on the bus because i couldn't decide what was worse: being late for my morning class or staying at school for 8 hours without a phone.
Needless to say i got off the bus and had to walk a good 20 minutes home, in the cold.
After retrieving my phone and getting on a second bus, my mom called saying that my dad had come to visit and could drive me to school.
I got off the bus again and waited on a street corner for him to pick me up.

I seriously think it was worth it. I hadn't seen my father in a while and we had a good chat on the way downtown. He lectured me on my spending and working too much. But unlike my mother, when he lectures me I shut up and listen, instead of answering back.
He openly said that he disproves of me being in school without knowing what I want to do and that i need to choose a career blah blah blah. The best line was; "you better not become a school cockroach" (said with a spanish accent)
We also stopped by starbucks to pick up some coffees, while he scolded me again about how "sugar is going to kill you." The best part of all this was that he drove me straight into school, past the gates. I felt like such an idiot getting a lift straight to class in a towncar, i probably looked like some lazy rich kid who gets limo service to school. I told him not to pass the gates, but apparently he does it all the time, so there actually are rich kids who get limo service to school in the morning. phhh
Whateves, i got to school on time, free coffee and advice for my future.

midterms

i am wired.
i had 2 large coffees in the matter of 4 hours.
please let this result in productive studying.

I have a midterm tomorrow, and odds are that its not going to go so well...
I have decided to trap myself in the library for at least another 7 hours and hope for the best.

v-day

I just want to bring to everyone's attention that valentine's day is this weekend.  Obviously i have no plans, and will probably just spend the night studying.  I refuse to go out and surround myself with single losers (yes i am aware that i am a single loser).  But nevertheless to any future prospects out there feel very free to come forth with any valentine's day surprises.
Just thought i should put that out there.

and aleasha i  pure thought of you, ill probably end up at home watching the notebook.

Goodbye my love

unfortunately in less than a week, Julian is heading off for T.O.  Apparently he thinks its a good idea to expand his knowledge, and learn more about makeup, while living in a cool place and working at a trendy salon. phhh
I know that he's only going to be gone for two months, but i'm really going to miss him.  I also have a feeling that he's going to love toronto, and never come home again...
While looking for something to post on this blog, I came across some early photos which are awesome.  I think this was the first time we went to parking together, one of the many disastrous nights we spent there.

productive studying

Seeing as how I have two midterms this week, I thought it would be a great idea to study in a group at school.

Total study time= 3 hours.

I think where we went wrong, was when we made the decision to have all you-can-eat sushi. It took us forever to choose a place to eat and once we were eating, we couldn't leave until we finished everything (im very impressed at the amount that was eaten by jamie joe and mike, but vince on the other hand...)
Point being, the dinner led to our downfall and we spent the rest of the night relaxing on questionably sanitary couches instead of power studying.

happiest day of my life

I finally received my laptop yesterday, but was very depressed because im computer illiterate and couldn't get anything to work (ie connect to the internet)  But fortunately my cousin who is apparently out drinking right now, managed to tell me over the phone a very complicated way to fix everything.  Yes, I am a moron, and yes, I am very thankful for computer geniuses. Regardless, i am now finally free from my PC YAY!
I honestly love my new macbook, but i feel like a complete idiot because i dont know how to use it.   Once i figure it out, ill take my laptop to class and maximize my blogging time.

bar dancing

I have officailly decided that this weekend was the last time I'm going out for the rest of the semseter (exceptions may occur).
I was forced into going to the Hedley after party (don't ask). I still don't understand who in the right mind would go willingly to watch an outdoor concert in ths weather. I, on the otherhand spent that time delightfully warm inside the nearest Starbucks. The night actually wasn't half-bad, I obviously tried to make it better by drinking, and by the end of the night we ended up at bside. I haven't been there in ages and for some reason thought it would be a good idea to bar-dance. I've decided that this is one of the things i should put an end to in 2009. It always seems like a good idea when I'm there, but i always look back and think: why??? I was also extremely offended when someone told me that i dance seductively.
Definitely putting an end to that.
And of course, I had only 3 hours of sleep that night and then went to work a 12 hour shift. Another deciding factor as to why I will be staying at home for the next several weeks.

Death to UPS

I actually can't wait until Monday morning so that I can call UPS and give them a piece of my mind. After the whole printer fiasco, I tracked my next package online and it claims to have already been delivered. I still don't have my laptop and I am getting very irritated.

CSST

I came into work ridiculously late today, and was waiting for my boss to fire me, when instead she said that there was a lot of cleaning to be done on the shelves, but that I was "exempt from cleaning" I was very surprised until she told me it was regarding the email I had sent the managers during my last shift. Long story short I do not have to clean because I suffered from severe truama, while Melissa is suffering from a broken collarbone.

This is the email I sent, and after reading it a second time I think I may have been a tad too aggressive...

From: Aveda Laval Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 9:18 PMTo: GenevieveCc: DimitraSubject: Laval update jan 13 2009
Hi,

We had pretty slow day today, and unfortunately could not make our goal. Melissa kept track of the guest count, and from 5-7:45 there wer no guests in the store at all. One guest came in the store after 7:45 and it was the last guest of the day.

ALSO:
It was very traumatizing, and I have warned everyone before that we can't fill up the drawers because they get too heavy. Predictably enough, the ENTIRE body care section came crashing down on on Melissa, and I wasn't strong enough to help remove the wall-unit off of her. Thankful someone ran into the store, and helped me lift it off of her. In the process we lost: carribean therapy body scrub tester ( which exploded across the store), RM hand and body wash tester, 2 soap plates, boxes of both the refreshing and carribean therapy soaps got stained from the exploding scrub, and all the soap testers have dents in them from hitting the floor.

We attempted to put the unit back in place, however the drawers are still so full that when you open one, they both slide open. I strongly recommend that we get two people to empty the drawers (one person emptying, while the other is spotting). We have also noticed that there are holes in the wall-units that are meant to be used to drill the wall-unit to the wall. Perhaps we can get someone to come in and secure the unit onto the wall.

This had once happened to me years ago, and that is why I keep going around and emptying the drawers, and putting the heavy stuff in the back. I hope we can all continue doing the same thing, as well as NOT filling the the drawers to the brim. We have possibly avoided very dangerous accidents, and we are lucky that Melissa did not get severly injured in the process (she did however hurt herself from the impact of the wall unit crashing onto her neck/shoulder.) Let's try to avoid this in the future.

life plan

I really hate when I ask other people what program they're in and they feel the need to tell me their major and their future careers. I get that everyone else out there has life goals, I really do. Is it normal that I don't have a life plan? I forgot to mention that I'm a science-gone-commerce-gone-science-gone-arts student, and I'm considering once again going back into science. Which by the way requires that I take linear algebra AGAIN, 9:30 in the morning and with a prof who has to be the scariest 95 year-old man I have ever seen.

Back to life plans, I have none. I realised that school probably won't do much. According to Julian, what I'm studying will only allow me to get a job at Indigo. I will probably have to resort to marrying rich and avoid worrying about a lifeplan.

Mail-Snatcher

I have been waiting very patiently for the last few days to receive my new laptop and I was extremely excited to find out that a package came in the mail today. When I got home I was horrified to see that it was my stupid printer that came in the mail instead of my glorious macbook. Disappointment aside, I have to mention the debacle that came about this package.
Apparently, the package came in and my neighbour thought it would be a good idea to sign for me (since I was not home). After calling all my neighbours she admitted that she had the box. When was she planning on telling me that she had a massive box with my name on it. I am extremely annoyed to know that she had my mail in her possession and could potentially still have my macbook in her home. Okay maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but we don't get along with the neighbours and have been feuding with them for a while. I'm still very pissed that "Chantal" did not bring to my attention that she had a very large/expensive package in her possession.
By the end of all this, I'm still waiting for my laptop.
If it doesn't come in a few days, I blame Chantal.

origins

I have been wanting to create a blog for quite some time now, but I could never think of what to call it or when to start. Now that school has started, I realized that I will need something to occupy my boring class time and voila: stacy's blog.

welcome to the rantings of my life.
